Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD

Most Demanding Score?
As far as soaring highs and crushing lows go, finding out there’s a new Super Monkey Ball coming out this year and then realising it’s probably a remake of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz definitely ranks up there alongside the day I won £50 on a scratchcard and then threw it in the bin at the pub.
And no offense to Banana Blitz but the Wii launch title, with its focus on motion controls, wasn’t a patch on the sublime Super Monkey Ball and SMB2 on GameCube. To be honest, Sega has never quite managed to drag the series back to those heights in the 17 years since, although I’m holding out hope this remake can be tweaked and refined for traditional control methods.
Details on Super Monkey Ball are pretty scarce. We’ve got the first batch of screenshots which clue us in on the Banana Blitz similarities, as well as an October 31st release date in Japan for PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
For the uninitiated, Super Monkey Ball was Sega back in its arcade prime. You control the stage itself, tilting it to roll the ball from the start to an end gate without falling off. This is then bolstered by a suite of minigames and assorted multiplayer modes.
The jury’s well and truly out on this one then. With PC and PS4 versions inbound we can at least be assured there are no dastardly motion controls to be dealing with. Hopefully, they can channel the greatness of the original Super Monkey Ball games and do away with some of the trashier minigames. Oh, and restore Monkey Target to the greatness it deserves.
