Have your say
News came in this morning that Splinter Cell and Assassins Creed owner, Ubisoft, have signed an exclusive deal to put those two games on its Oculus virtual reality headset.
This seems to be part of a larger push Facebook to help claw back some of its younger users. With the social media giant losing considerable numbers of the younger generation users to social media offerings found through successful games like Fortnite.
Interestingly though, Ubisoft have published a number of their games already on VR, Star Trek Bridge Crew, Eagle Flight, and including Assassins Creed VR titles that are in essence escape rooms. The games that Oculus Rift normally acquires are smaller studio based, unique IPs. Whereas Splinter Cell and Assassins Creed are both long standing series and the intent is likely to attempt to lure from establish gaming audiences of existing game platforms over to the Rift with a familiar series. As opposed to pushing hard to pull gamers into the Rift with completely unknown titles.
Sony are doing similar with exclusive sign ups like Skyrim VR, as well as a Dark Souls one. SteamVR platform will be looking to use their own IPs in a as well, so we will likely be seeing VR Half life, Portal and Left For Dead.

“I’d rather give VR a pass forever than spend almost a thousand dollars on it just so companies decide that exclusivity deals are the way to go, afterwards. Looks like at this rate, I’ll never touch it ”
