Having lain dormant for the best part of four years, Saints Row is set to make a comeback in 2020 and slap you round the chops with a metre-long dildo bat. Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz has said Saints Row 5 will officially be revealed in 2020 and it’s all part of an initiative to give developers the time they need to make the game fans want.

“Saints Row is Saints Row,” said Kundratitz during a chat with “The two games are similar, for sure, but they’re also completely different. With Volition, we have the creators of all the Saints Row games as an internal studio and they’re not going to be distracted by anything else from creating our next game under this important franchise.

“Saints Row is very close to our hearts, and we’ll talk about it next year. For the time being, we just wanted to get the word out that it’s coming and it’s going to be great.”

Koch Media’s parent company, THQ Nordic, confirmed during a fiscal report in August of this year that Saints Row 5 is coming and it is “deep in development”.

Whatever Saints Row 5 ends up being, it’s definitely got to do something to drag the franchise into the modern era. With each outing, the series got crazier and crazier until Saints Row IV well and truly jumped the shark. It’s hard to imagine where you go next after super-powered presents leaping entire buildings and defeating Satan.

Then Agents of Mayhem came along and, in an ill-judged move, shared the same universe as the Saints Row series. It left the franchise looking more deflated than Johnny Gat’s punchlines. Saints Row, for better or worse, feels like it’s from a bygone era, so it’ll certainly be interesting to see how Volition adapts for the next game.

Saints Row V is in the cooker then, and we haven’t got too long to wait until Volition spills the beans. But, where would you like to see the open-world franchise go next? Is it time for a gritty reboot, or would you prefer a sequel gets even more madcap than Saints Row IV? Let us know!
